John Parkinson
CPA, CA, B.Comm, B.A. Principal - President
Proven senior executive with a depth of experience in the management of complex, dynamic organizations. John is a Chartered Accountant by trade with extensive C level experience in leadership of companies in a number of industry sectors.

Currently, through Helmsman Management Ltd., John manages an array of independent entities on behalf of investors focused on the industrial and retail real estate sectors as well as providing executive services to entities in the pharmaceutical, construction, and remediation technology sectors. John’s previous role was as the court appointed Chief Executive Officer of a diverse investment fund under CCAA. John’s initial task was to complete a strategic analysis on $375 million portfolio, and to forge a path to maximize the recovery to a large and diverse stakeholder group through collaboration and negotiation. John is managing the final stages of the project, after selling over 80% of the assets, and restructuring the remainder into viable, surviving entities.
Prior to this, John provided Chief Financial Officer services to a number of high growth entities, including two publicly traded companies. John obtained his Chartered Accountant designation with KPMG, for whom he worked for 10 years providing advisory and reporting services to fast growth technology based clients in British Columbia and London England.

Stephen is a dynamic finance professional with over 20 years as a Chartered Professional Accountant. He holds a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Victoria.

Prior to joining Helmsman Management Ltd., Stephen was Finance Director for high-growth companies in the technology, biotech, construction, and real estate industries. Stephens, calm and steady character combined with his depth of experience prove invaluable when executing complex, high-value projects including corporate restructuring, critical cash management, debt refinancing, ERP implementations, and managing teams in rapidly scaling organizations. A strategic thinker, Stephen looks for innovative ways to rethink processes and leverage technology to drive efficiencies.
When not in the office or meeting with clients you will find Stephen careening down a mountainside on his mountain bike or catching a few waves on his surfboard.
Natasha Rice
CPA, CGA, PCP - Associate
Natasha is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over a dozen years of accounting experience. Her expertise is full cycle accounting, financial statement preparation and general ledger maintenance.

Natasha holds a bachelor’s degree in law and has trained as a payroll compliance practitioner. Music is a large part of Natasha’s family life, so it makes sense that Natasha has an inner metronome that keeps her in perfect pace and rhythm with the clients we work with. From ledger reconciliation to accounts payable/receivable to preparation of reports, Natasha works closely with our clients to meet their needs.
When not in the office Natasha can be found camping and exploring the beautiful British Columbia outdoors with her family.

John’s is responsible for investor communications and special projects. With a breadth of business experience spanning over 25 years, John brings strong communication skills, a depth of investor relations and business experience to the Helmsman team.

He was a member of Canada’s National Rowing Team for 8 years, attending two Olympic Games and winning several national and international medals. He concluded his rowing career after winning an Olympic gold medal as a member of the Men’s 8+ crew at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Braden Dougherty

Braden is Helmsman’s IT Specialist. Drawing on his university education, analytical skill and over 10 years of experience in technical support, quality assurance and client training roles, Braden is responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of IT systems.
